Heo Tae-jung, former Mayor of Daejeon, was confirmed on April 13 as the Democratic Party of Korea’s candidate for Mayor of Daejeon in the 6·3 local elections.
Soh Byung-hoon, Chairperson of the Central Party Election Commission, announced the results of the runoff vote for the Democratic Party's mayoral primary at the party headquarters on this day. After three days of run-off voting, which began on the 11th, candidate Heo was confirmed as the final nominee, defeating candidate Jang Cheol-min.
In accordance with party rules, the voting percentages for each candidate were not disclosed.
Heo previously served as a Blue House administrator under the Roh Moo-hyun administration and as head of Yuseong District in Daejeon, before being elected Mayor of Daejeon in the 2018 local elections. In the 2022 local elections, he ran against the current mayor, Lee Jang-woo, but was defeated.
