Bucheon City in Gyeonggi Province announced on April 13 that its cultural regeneration facility, 'Bucheon Art Bunker B39,' has been selected for the '2nd Local 100 (100 Local Cultural Attractions)' program organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
'Local 100' is a project aimed at discovering and promoting unique local cultural assets and content both domestically and internationally. For this second round, 1,042 candidates recommended by citizens and local governments were evaluated through online voting and expert review.
Bucheon Art Bunker has been selected for the Local 100 for two consecutive terms, following its inclusion in the first round (2024-2025).
This facility was reborn as a cultural and arts exhibition space in 2018 after remodeling the Samjeong-dong incinerator building, which had gained notoriety in the 1990s during the 'dioxin crisis.' The facility makes creative use of its original features-such as the bunker, bunker bridge, and condensate tanks-to create a unique space.
In addition to serving as a venue for exhibitions and performances, fostering local artists, offering arts education for children, and providing a community space for residents, it is also used as a filming location for movies, dramas, and music videos, functioning as a complex cultural space.
A Bucheon City official stated, "Art Bunker B39 is a representative example of Bucheon’s cultural regeneration through the reinterpretation of industrial heritage," adding, "We will strengthen our efforts to promote this site so that more citizens and visitors can experience its value and appeal."
