Democratic Party Confirms Candidates for Five Basic Local Government Heads in Jeonbuk Region

On April 13, the Election Management Committee of the Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province branch of the Democratic Party of Korea announced the results of the main primary for selecting candidates for basic local government heads in the 9th Nationwide Local Elections.

According to the primary results, the following candidates have secured the party's final nomination: Jung Sungju for Gimje Mayor, Hwang Inhong for Muju County Governor, Choi Hunsik for Jangsu County Governor, Choi Youngil for Sunchang County Governor, and Sim Deokseop for Gochang County Governor.

In the case of Jung Sungju, the Gimje mayoral candidate, although four candidates initially competed and a runoff was anticipated, he secured more than half of the votes and was confirmed as the final candidate in the main primary.

Additionally, for nine constituencies-Jeonju City, Gunsan City, Iksan City, Jeongeup City, Namwon City, Wanju County, Jinan County, Imsil County, and Buan County-where no candidate received a majority in the main primary, the final candidate will be determined through a runoff election.

In detail (in alphabetical order): ▲Jeonju Mayor runoff: Woo Beomgi and Cho Jihoon ▲Gunsan Mayor: Kim Youngil and Kim Jaejun ▲Iksan Mayor: Cho Yongsik and Choi Jungho ▲Jeongeup Mayor: Lee Sanggil and Lee Haksoo ▲Namwon Mayor: Yang Chungmo and Lee Jeongrin ▲Wanju County Governor: Yoo Heetae and Lee Donseung ▲Jinan County Governor: Lee Ugyu and Jeon Chunseong ▲Imsil County Governor: Kim Byungi and Han Deoksoo ▲Buan County Governor: Kwon Ikhyun and Kim Jeonggi.

Runoff voting for these constituencies will be held from April 20 to April 21. The method of voting will be the same as in the main primary.

Meanwhile, this main primary was conducted from April 11 to 12 using an ARS (automated response system) method that combined 50% votes from party members with 50% from a safe-number system.
