Democratic Party South Gyeongsang Finalizes Lee Joo-ok for Miryang, Jung Guk-jung for Sacheon Candidates

On April 13, the South Gyeongsang Provincial Chapter of the Democratic Party of Korea finalized its candidates for the 9th nationwide local elections for basic local government heads, nominating former Miryang City Council member Lee Joo-ok as the candidate for Mayor of Miryang and Jung Guk-jung, vice chairman of the provincial chapter, as the candidate for Mayor of Sacheon.

The provincial chapter made this decision after holding runoff elections on April 11 and 12 for the preliminary candidates in Sacheon and Miryang, as no candidate had secured a majority in the primary elections held on April 4 and 5.

In Yangsan, where no candidate won a majority in the main primary following a preliminary round, a runoff will be held between preliminary candidates Kim Il-kwon and Cho Moon-gwan on April 18 and 19 using an automated response system (ARS).

Additionally, for Uiryeong County and Hapcheon County, where candidates have not yet been finalized, the selection process is still underway through either open recruitment or primary review.

With these decisions, the Democratic Party of Korea's South Gyeongsang Provincial Chapter has completed the selection of candidates for heads of basic local governments in 15 out of 18 regions in the province, with Yangsan, Uiryeong, and Hapcheon still pending.
