This award initiative was established in line with the "Strengthening Performance-Based Rewards" policy presented at the Cabinet meeting in December of last year. The aim is to promote an active public service culture by providing appropriate rewards and encouragement to civil servants who achieve outstanding results.

The award recipients were selected based on the outcomes of 10 national policy projects carried out from the second half of last year through February of this year. Key projects included the establishment of the 2035 National Greenhouse Gas Reduction Target (NDC), expansion of renewable energy, and realization of a circular economy.

Among these, four projects were chosen as the top special achievement cases. First, the "Establishment of the 2035 National Greenhouse Gas Reduction Target (NDC)" was recognized for comprehensively reviewing sector-by-sector reduction effects and feasibility, conducting public debates, and providing direction for implementing national carbon neutrality. The "Advancement of Greenhouse Gas Emissions Forecasts and Reduction Scenarios" received high marks for enhancing the objectivity of policy through improved scientific analysis techniques.

Additionally, the "Establishment of a Foundation for Expanding Renewable Energy" was acknowledged for strengthening the institutional framework by improving facility separation distance standards and expanding tax credits for solar modules. The "Implementation of the Ban on Direct Landfilling of Municipal Solid Waste in the Seoul Metropolitan Area" was recognized for garnering agreement among the three metropolitan local governments, establishing the principle for implementing the policy, and shortening the timeframe for expanding incineration facilities.

Three projects were selected as excellent special achievements: transitioning the compensation system for victims of humidifier disinfectant, optimizing the efficiency of renewable energy grids, and resolving offshore wind power permitting processes in a bundled manner. Three additional projects, which are closely tied to the public's daily life, were chosen as encouragement cases: expanding free disposal of waste electronics, providing flood information through navigation systems, and streamlining the registration and reporting process for chemical substances.

Kim Sung-hwan, Minister of the Climate Department, stated, "This ceremony is an opportunity to cheer on the staff who have solved problems on the ground and created tangible changes that the public can feel," adding, "We will continue to generate substantive policy outcomes in the future."
