Fostering Creativity and Ecological Sensitivity

Namhae County in South Gyeongsang Province announced on the 13th that it had successfully hosted the “One-Pyeong Garden Project with Little Gardeners,” a hands-on garden experience program for children, at the Dumo Wildflower Complex.

This event was organized as an educational program designed to help children connect with nature and experience garden culture in daily life, providing local children with a unique field learning opportunity.

The “One-Pyeong Garden Project” has been implemented since 2024 and was operated at Namsan Park in Namhae-eup for the past two years. This year, the venue was moved to the Dumo Wildflower Complex in Sangju-myeon, and more than 200 participants-including students from Sangju Elementary School and Mijo Elementary School, as well as local elementary students and kindergarteners-took part.

The participating children personally selected their preferred flowers from a variety of spring blossoms, such as Iberis and Lupinus, and decided on the arrangement and composition themselves, completing their own unique “One-Pyeong Garden.” Through the process of planting and caring for the plants, they were able to develop both creativity and ecological sensitivity.

Namhae County plans to maintain and manage the gardens for about a month so that the children can continue to observe changes in the gardens they created.

The children expressed high satisfaction, saying, “The garden feels even more special because we made it ourselves,” “It was fun because it’s an experience that’s hard to have in the classroom,” and “I definitely want to participate again next year.”

An official from Namhae County stated, “The One-Pyeong Garden Project is a meaningful experience program that allows children to interact closely with nature and learn about garden culture,” adding, “We will continue to expand the program so that even more children can participate in the future.”
