SAMSUNG C&T Corporation is partnering with Korea Power Exchange to commercialize the Korean Energy Management System (EMS) in overseas markets. They aim to enhance the power operation system, which manages power plants, transmission networks, and energy storage systems (ESS) simultaneously, and launch it commercially abroad.
The construction division of SAMSUNG C&T Corporation announced on April 13 that it will sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Korea Power Exchange at its headquarters in Sangil-dong, Gangdong-gu, Seoul. The agreement covers technology development, demonstration, commercialization, and overseas market entry for the power system operation platform.
The power system operation platform is a system that provides real-time monitoring of power generation, transmission, and usage, and enables remote control of necessary facilities. As a core facility for maintaining a stable power supply and demand, it functions as the "brain" of the power grid.
Through this agreement, SAMSUNG C&T Corporation and Korea Power Exchange will collaborate on developing, demonstrating, advancing, and building commercialization models for new EMS application technologies. SAMSUNG C&T Corporation will leverage its overseas energy infrastructure project experience and local networks, while Korea Power Exchange will contribute its expertise in domestic power system operation to create synergy.
SAMSUNG C&T Corporation plans to verify the system’s applicability in real-world overseas power grid environments and develop a commercialization model. The company also intends to utilize its experience in power plant, battery energy storage system, and ultra-high voltage transmission projects in Qatar, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Guam, and Australia.
Both parties will expand their overseas institutional cooperation networks during the technology commercialization phase and jointly explore strategies for securing standardization and certification required by the global market.
Changwook Lee, Executive Vice President and Head of Energy Solution Business Division at SAMSUNG C&T Corporation, stated, "Based on the global competitiveness of SAMSUNG C&T Corporation’s energy business, we will focus on enhancing the business value of national R&D achievements and securing differentiated energy solutions."
