Paju City in Gyeonggi Province will hold the '2026 Paju City Youth Energy Short-Form Video Contest' to raise youth awareness of energy issues and strengthen their digital media skills.
This contest, themed "Drawing Paju as a Future Energy City," invites teenagers to creatively and engagingly present the necessity of renewable energy such as solar power, ideas for its everyday use, and ways to expand its adoption in the local community from their own perspective. Participants are encouraged to express ideas such as "The Renewable Energy City of Paju I Imagine" and "How Everyday Life Changes When Renewable Energy Increases in Our Neighborhood" through creative short-form videos of up to one minute in length.
The contest categories include: ▲Promotion of Paju City’s Hometown Love Donation Program and its designated projects ("Your Donation Becomes the Sun of Paju") ▲Imagining Paju’s Future in 2050 (a city based on renewable energy) ▲Cases of using solar and other renewable energies and ideas for their spread ▲Experiencing eco-friendly modes of transportation (imaginative scenarios for renewable energy-based mobility and charging). Various expressive methods such as memes, humor, subtitles, and artificial intelligence can also be used.
Eligibility is open to all youth from 4th grade in elementary school to 3rd grade in high school who are either enrolled in a school within Paju City or reside in the city. Participation can be individual or team-based, but all team members must be youth. The application period runs from May 1 to July 2 (until 18:00). Detailed contest guidelines and submission methods can be found on the official Paju City website.
The judging process consists of two stages. The first stage checks whether entries meet contest requirements and whether there are any copyright infringements. The second stage evaluates entries based on four criteria: completeness, originality, usefulness, and popularity, and selects the final winners.
Prizes will be awarded to nine teams in total: one Grand Prize, three Excellence Awards, and five Merit Awards. The Grand Prize winner will receive a tablet to support their creative activities; Excellence Award winners will receive wireless earphones; and Merit Award winners will each receive 100,000 won in Paju Pay.
The winning entries will be posted on Paju City’s official YouTube channel and are planned to be used for public purposes, such as promoting renewable energy adoption and related policies.
An official from Paju City stated, "We hope this will be an opportunity for youth to see renewable energy not as a difficult policy, but as a change they can participate in," adding, "Please help us imagine the future of energy in Paju through your one-minute videos."
