A so-called "feces bomb" incident at a wedding dress shop in the Netherlands has shocked the local community.
On April 13, Yonhap News TV reported that streets and roads in a Dutch city were left in disarray and foul-smelling due to a feces bomb. The incident occurred at around 4:30 a.m. local time on April 9, when an explosion was heard at the entrance of a wedding dress shop located on Steenstraat in Boxmeer, the Netherlands.
In Europe, in recent years, there have been intermittent occurrences of bizarre crimes involving "throwing filth." These incidents have increasingly been exploited not just as simple pranks but as means of retaliation or expressing dissatisfaction against specific targets. The Brabant Police Department stated, "The explosive device was filled with feces," adding, "Not only the store’s facade and windows, but also the surrounding street were contaminated, causing a severe stench to spread." A resident living across from the shop recounted, "I was awakened by the sudden explosion, but no one was outside. In the morning, I saw the entire street was covered in feces, and I had to clean my own driveway myself."
The wedding dress shop commented, "Fortunately, none of the dresses inside were damaged," but strongly condemned the act as "a very unpleasant and malicious crime committed deliberately." Police and fire authorities dispatched to the scene assessed that the odor could not be eliminated with ordinary cleaning due to the extent of the contamination, and stated that specialized disinfection and cleaning services would be required. Currently, the police have secured CCTV footage from the area and are analyzing the suspect’s appearance while conducting a focused investigation into the circumstances of the incident.
Meanwhile, in recent years, Europe has seen intermittent occurrences of bizarre crimes involving "throwing filth." These incidents have increasingly been exploited not just as simple pranks but as means of retaliation or expressing dissatisfaction against specific targets. In fact, there have been previous reports in Amsterdam, Netherlands, where filth was thrown at shop exteriors, and similar "filth attacks" have also targeted residential neighborhoods in London, England, prompting police investigations.
Experts point out that while such crimes may cause limited physical damage, they should never be taken lightly, as the strong stench and hygiene issues can inflict significant psychological trauma on victims and seriously damage the local image. Although there were no casualties in this latest incident, it has caused considerable inconvenience to local businesses and residents, and there are urgent calls for police to swiftly apprehend the suspect. Authorities are considering strengthening patrols and reviewing relevant legal penalties to prevent similar crimes from recurring.
