Siheung City in Gyeonggi Province announced on April 13 that it will participate in the '6th K-Festival Expo' to be held at the Suwon Convention Center for three days from April 17 to 19, actively promoting the '21st Siheung Gaetgol Festival' and the city's major tourist attractions.
This expo is hosted by the Korea Local Newspaper Association and Joongbu Maeil, and organized by Korea Exhibition Industry Co., Ltd. With local governments and related organizations from across the country participating, the event serves as a venue to introduce representative regional festivals. Siheung City will operate a dedicated promotion booth to showcase the charm of the '21st Siheung Gaetgol Festival,' which is scheduled to take place from September 18 to 20, and to further raise awareness of the event.
In particular, Siheung City's official mascots, Haero and Toro, will compete in the 'Korea's Representative Festival Mascot Contest,' a side event of the expo. Haero and Toro have already garnered much public attention during the preliminary online vote, and will further engage with visitors through an on-site parade and talent show, helping to elevate the festival atmosphere.
Additionally, at the Siheung City promotion booth, a variety of interactive contents will be offered, including an immersive photo zone and an artificial intelligence (AI)-based character synthesis photo booth where visitors can create their own personalized characters, aiming to attract visitors' attention.
A Siheung City official stated, "This expo is a great opportunity to promote the Siheung Gaetgol Festival, which has been consecutively designated as a '2026~2027 Cultural Tourism Festival,' to people nationwide. We hope many will show interest in and visit the Siheung City booth, where Haero and Toro will be active and unique experience programs are available."
Meanwhile, the '6th K-Festival Expo' will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. during the event period, with the final day on the 19th ending at 5 p.m.
Now in its 21st year, the Siheung Gaetgol Festival leverages the unique ecological features of the Gaetgol Ecological Park, home to the country’s only inland tidal flat, offering a variety of ecology and art programs that allow visitors to relax, learn, and enjoy nature. The festival continues to gain popularity among both local residents and tourists, and its consecutive designation as a '2026~2027 Cultural Tourism Festival' has once again affirmed its status as one of Korea’s leading ecological and cultural festivals.
