The Candidate Nomination Committee of the People Power Party held an additional recruitment for candidates for the Gyeonggi and North Jeolla governor positions, but once again, no candidate emerged for the North Jeolla governorship.
The Candidate Nomination Committee announced on the 12th that, upon closing the additional applications for the Gyeonggi governor candidate for the June 3 local elections, two people had applied: Supreme Council member Cho Gwanghan and former MBC announcer Lee Seongbae. Supreme Council member Cho, who previously served as mayor of Namyangju, also held the position of appointed Supreme Council member under the leadership of Jang Donghyuk. Former announcer Lee was active in Hong Joonpyo's campaign during the last presidential election.
A total of 13 people applied for the parliamentary by-election candidacies. In Incheon Gyeyang-gu-eul, two people, Sim Wangseop and Park Sanggun, registered their candidacy. In Asan-si-eul, Chungcheongnam-do, two people, Kim Minkyeong, secretary of the party’s Special Committee for Moms’ Peace of Mind, and Shin Sujeong, head of the Special Committee on Education of the Chungcheongnam-do Party, submitted applications.
For Pyeongtaek-si-eul in Gyeonggi Province, four people are running: former National Assembly member Yoo Euidong, former National Assembly member Lee Jaeyoung, former vice chair of the Gyeonggi Provincial Party Lee Byeongbae, and former chair of the Pyeongtaek City Council Kang Jeonggu. For Ansan-gap in Gyeonggi Province, five people applied: former National Assembly member Jang Sungmin, chief spokesperson of the Gyeonggi Provincial Party Kim Seokhun, visiting professor at Kyungmin University Lee Gihak, chair of the Smart Environment Committee Han Gapsu, and former CEO of Asan Urban Corporation Heo Soong.
The Candidate Nomination Committee stated, "We plan to begin document and interview reviews to thoroughly verify candidates' qualifications and competitiveness."
