Baek Gi-cheol, preliminary candidate for Mayor of Dong-gu, Daegu, representing the People Power Party, stated on April 11, "Although there has been no progress in relocating Daegu Airport, residents living near the military airport in Dong-gu, Daegu, have faced severe inconvenience for the past three years because the area has been designated as a land transaction permission zone. If I am elected mayor, I plan to immediately push for the lifting of this designation."
On the same day, candidate Baek wrote on Facebook, "After the decision was made to build the TK Integrated New Airport in the Gunwi and Uiseong areas, it was pure administrative convenience and a clear example of poor governance to designate the area around the Dong-gu military airport as a land transaction permission zone three years ago. This area has been subject to various regulations for over 50 years due to the military airport, causing serious damage to residents' property rights."
He continued, "Although the relocation of the military airport has only been confirmed and no actual progress has been made, designating the area as a land transaction permission zone only adds more unnecessary and ineffective regulations to an already struggling region. This is a chronic example of bureaucracy that only causes pain to the residents of Dong-gu and citizens of Daegu. In particular, the real estate market in Daegu is at its worst, and it is obvious that building the integrated new airport using the donation and transfer method will seriously hinder raising funds for its construction."
Candidate Baek added, "As a top priority for regulatory reform, I promise to immediately lift the unnecessary and administratively convenient designation of the land transaction permission zone as part of advanced governance aimed at revitalizing the local economy and protecting residents' property rights."
