Korean-American politician Andy Kim, a Democratic Party senator in the United States, called for the removal of President Donald Trump on April 9 (local time).
Appearing on CNN's "The Source" that day, Senator Kim stated, "Trump is not fit to be Commander-in-Chief. He has lost the trust and confidence of the American people," and condemned, "President Trump must be removed from office."
He further argued, "He is an immediate danger to the American people, and he is acting in complete opposition to what the public wants and prioritizes."
However, when asked by the host whether he would push for impeachment proceedings against President Trump in Congress, Senator Kim did not clarify his position. Instead, he responded, "There are people in Washington who are standing up against a president who is out of control, reckless, and contrary to what the American people want," adding, "The American people deserve to hear and to know."
Currently, the U.S. Congress is in recess. Nevertheless, Senator Kim is repeatedly insisting that Congress should be immediately convened to provide checks on the Iran airstrikes being pursued by the Trump administration. Even during a recess, the U.S. Congress can convene a 'pro forma' session.
It has been reported that Senator Kim returned to Congress after President Trump posted a threatening message on April 7, stating his intention to "destroy Iranian civilization." On the broadcast, Kim explained, "I am also urging my colleagues to return to Washington, D.C., immediately."
He continued, "Today, I contacted the Department of Defense to receive a briefing, but they refused," and urged, "A hearing must be held to ensure transparency for this war that was executed without the consent of the American people."
Meanwhile, Senator Kim is a second-generation Korean-American immigrant, who previously served at the State Department and the White House National Security Council (NSC), before being elected to the House of Representatives in 2018. He ran for the Senate in 2024 and became the first Korean-American to be elected as a U.S. senator.
