Seocho-gu in Seoul (District Mayor Jeon Seong-su) announced on April 9 that it has been selected as the first and only district among Seoul’s autonomous districts for the "2026 Public Outdoor Advertisement Improvement Project" hosted by the Korea Outdoor Advertisement Center under the Korea Local Finance Association, which is supervised by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.

The target area for the project is the Yangjae Maljukgeori area, which is Seocho-gu’s first alley-type shopping district. A total of 36 signboards and information facilities at 8 public institutions and government offices, including the Seocho-gu Office, Yangjae Comprehensive Social Welfare Center, and Yangjae Police Substation, will be renovated.
The district plans to maximize the project’s effectiveness by linking it to last year’s independently conducted "2025 Yangjae Maljukgeori Signboard Improvement Project." Previously, Seocho-gu was also the only district in Seoul to be selected for the "2025 Youth Participation Outdoor Advertisement Design Project," through which it completed the renovation of signboards for 21 businesses along Seoripul Instrument Street. The district received the Minister of the Interior and Safety Award in last year’s outdoor advertisement work evaluation and was also a Gold Winner at the Green Apple Awards, one of the world’s four major international environmental awards.
Jeon Seong-su, Mayor of Seocho-gu, stated, “By combining the historical value of Yangjae Maljukgeori with modern design, we aim to revitalize the local commercial area and enhance the urban landscape at the same time.”
