A Thoughtful Feast for Past Champions

Matsuyama Spent $220, Rahm $180 per Person

Last year's Masters champion Rory McIlroy (Northern Ireland) treated former champions to the most expensive Champions Dinner ever on April 7 (local time).

The Sun reported, "McIlroy spent $318 (about 470,000 won) per person on his Masters Champions Dinner. This is the priciest menu in the history of the Masters Champions Dinner." The Champions Dinner is an annual event where past Masters winners gather for an exclusive dinner. It was first hosted by Ben Hogan (USA) in 1952. The event takes place on Tuesday evening, two days before the Masters begins.

The Champions Dinner is open only to previous champions and select Augusta National Golf Club board members. A unique tradition of the Masters is that the previous year's winner chooses the menu. McIlroy, who won last year's Masters, achieved a career Grand Slam by claiming titles at all four major tournaments.

McIlroy prepared a diverse menu, including dates stuffed with goat cheese and wrapped in bacon, venison burgers, fried shrimp, tuna carpaccio with foie gras, wagyu and salmon steak, and pudding. He curated the menu to reflect both his childhood memories and the culinary culture of Georgia, USA, where the Masters is held. McIlroy said with a big smile, "The Masters Dinner is one of the greatest traditions in sports," adding, "I am truly grateful to be a part of it."

The Sun also revealed a ranking of average costs for past Champions Dinners. In 2022, Hideki Matsuyama (Japan) spent $220 per person, ranking second. In 2024, Jon Rahm (Spain) spent $180, Patrick Reed spent $170 in 2019, and Dustin Johnson (USA) spent $160 in 2021. Last year, Scottie Scheffler (USA) served cheeseburgers, steak, and more for the Champions Dinner, with a per-person cost of $108.
