Boseong County in South Jeolla Province announced on April 8 that its "Prestigious High School Nurturing Support Project," which has been implemented in response to declining school-age population and the risk of local extinction, has produced tangible results and enhanced the region's educational competitiveness.
Through this project, the county has provided year-round support to local high schools, offering ▲advanced learning programs for the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) and school grades, ▲in-depth analysis of university admissions and one-on-one career and admissions consulting, ▲special lectures by distinguished instructors, and ▲autonomous programs operated at the discretion of each school.

This figure represents an approximately 3.8-fold increase compared to 2020, marking the highest performance for the seventh consecutive year since the project began and continuing a sustained growth trend.
Notably, the achievements were evenly distributed across all three high schools rather than being concentrated in a single institution. The sharing of best practices among schools and personalized career planning for students have led to the overall enhancement of students' academic capabilities, resulting in the realization of "equalization of educational standards."
The qualitative level of university admissions has also improved. Numerous students were accepted to leading universities in the Seoul area, as well as to medical, dental, pharmaceutical, and Korean medicine departments, and to advanced departments such as KAIST, demonstrating that even rural areas can nurture top-tier talent.
Some students were found to have been admitted to multiple top universities and medical departments simultaneously, further expanding their range of choices.
The county plans to further advance the "Prestigious High School Nurturing Support Project" in 2026. It will establish differentiated educational models by branding the strengths of each school and refine the customized educational support system for students and schools using admissions data.
A county official stated, "As the competitiveness of local high schools has strengthened, the influx of outstanding students from outside the area has increased, and we are also creating a virtuous cycle that prevents local middle school students from leaving. Going forward, we will continue to provide comprehensive educational support and establish precise, data-driven admissions strategies to help our children's dreams take flight."
