An incident in which foreign men kidnapped and confined a man of the same nationality in the heart of downtown Cheongju has occurred, prompting a police investigation.
According to Cheongju Sangdang Police Station in North Chungcheong Province on April 7, a 112 emergency call was received at around 1:30 p.m. the previous day, reporting that "several foreigners forced an acquaintance into a car and took him away" in the Yongam-dong area of Sangdang-gu, Cheongju.
Responding to the report, the police tracked down the suspects by analyzing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage and other means, and, after approximately five hours and thirty minutes, apprehended two individuals in Daegu that evening.
According to the police investigation, five Vietnamese men assaulted a man in his twenties, also of Vietnamese nationality, identified as Mr. A, forced him into a vehicle, drove him to a studio apartment in Daegu, and then confined him there. The police rescued the victim and are currently pursuing the remaining accomplices who fled the scene.
The publicly released CCTV footage from the vicinity of the scene captured the urgent situation in detail. When a black sedan stopped at the edge of the road, four men exited the vehicle, while another man was seen dragging Mr. A by the back of his neck from across the street. Although Mr. A resisted strongly, the group rushed in simultaneously, overpowered him, and forcibly pushed him into the back seat of the car.
The police are investigating the exact circumstances and motives behind the crime with the apprehended suspects, while continuing to track down the accomplices who are still at large.
