Ansan City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Min-geun) announced on April 7 that it is strengthening multilingual publicity efforts to increase the utilization of the Citizen Safety Insurance by foreign residents.
According to Ansan City, the number of Citizen Safety Insurance claims filed by foreign residents over the past three years was 15, which is significantly lower than the approximately 500 claims filed by Korean nationals.
Ansan has the highest proportion of foreign residents in the country, with a foreign population exceeding 100,000. Among them, there are about 60,000 Chinese-speaking foreigners, including ethnic Chinese from China, and about 20,000 Russian-speaking foreigners, including Koryo-saram. In addition, a large number of foreign workers live and work in places such as the Ansan Smart Industrial Complex and construction sites.
In response, the city has translated and produced Citizen Safety Insurance information brochures in Chinese and Russian, distributing them to the Foreign Residents Support Headquarters and 18 major foreign residents support organizations within the city.
Furthermore, the city has requested the cooperation of relevant institutions, including Ansan Fire Station, the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency, the Ansan branch of the Ministry of Employment and Labor, Sanrok and Danwon Police Stations, and the Gyeonggi Western Sunflower Center, in providing information on key coverage items such as: ▲ general injury death and disability ▲ injury death and disability due to robbery ▲ consolation payments for injury from sexual violence crimes. The city is also continuing its publicity efforts through Ansan City's social media channels and community newsletters.
Mayor Lee Min-geun stated, "The Citizen Safety Insurance is an important social safety net that helps citizens recover their daily lives after disasters and accidents," adding, "We will strengthen our publicity efforts to ensure that foreign residents living in Ansan are not excluded from the benefits of the system."
