Gokseong County in Jeollanam-do has launched efforts to increase forestry workers' income and establish a foundation for sustainable forest management by expanding eco-friendly forest product certification.

On April 1, Gokseong County announced that it had held a "Meeting for the Expansion of Eco-Friendly Agricultural Products (Forest Products) Certification" at the Gokseong County Forestry Cooperative. The event was hosted by the Jeollanam-do Department of Eco-Friendly Agriculture.

This meeting was organized in line with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs' national policy task, the "6th Five-Year Plan for Eco-Friendly Agriculture (2026-2030)," and aimed to more than double the current eco-friendly cultivation area. The county plans to actively encourage both new and existing farms to transition to eco-friendly practices in pursuit of this goal.

The main implementation strategies include intensive promotion focusing on items with a low certification rate compared to the cultivated area of forest products in the county. In particular, the county plans to cooperate with the Forestry Division to encourage participation in eco-friendly certification for forest products harvested naturally without the use of chemical fertilizers.

Measures to secure stable sales channels were also discussed. The county will include eco-friendly forest products in initiatives such as the "Eco-Friendly Package Project for Pregnant Women," public institution supply programs, and the green product purchasing system, thereby significantly expanding the use of low-carbon, eco-friendly products.

In addition, for producers who have limited access to information, the county plans to strengthen field-based education and publicize support programs in cooperation with organizations such as the Forestry Cooperative and the Forestry Workers Association.

A representative from Gokseong County stated, "The expansion of eco-friendly forest product certification is a key project that not only increases the actual income of forestry workers, but also enhances the competitiveness of local agricultural products. We will continue to closely cooperate with related organizations to further promote the spread of eco-friendly agriculture."
