The media art specialist artist group 'JD-art' from JD Digital Studio Co., Ltd. participated in the content production segment of Seoul National University's Historical Archives permanent exhibition space construction project. This exhibition reinterprets the rich history of Seoul National University through diverse content, culminating in a distinctive presentation as new media art.
'JD-art' took part as a content production partner under the overall direction of Young-in Space Co., Ltd., handling all phases from planning, production, and installation to the direction of the internal media art content. The exhibition goes beyond conventional passive viewing, focusing on delivering an immersive media art experience that expands the senses of its visitors.
The exhibition unfolds in three flows, structured to form a continuous narrative along the visitor's route. Upon entering, a large anamorphic media art installation welcomes visitors, symbolizing Seoul National University's unwavering determination to overcome adversity. This is conveyed through stories of light, footsteps, waves, and flower fields, ushering in the opening of the exhibition. The main first section that follows depicts the university's birth and growth. A variety of content is presented, including a touch panel displaying past presidents of Seoul National University, and an interactive experience that transforms visitors' photos to show them dressed in the university's old school uniform.
The second section captures Seoul National University's endurance through times of hardship. The center of the exhibition hall features a torch beam projection, music directed by performance director Kim Min-gi, and archival footage that brings past democratization moments to life using AI-based motion generation technology. Together, these elements create a space that symbolically expresses the university’s trials and perseverance.
The third section is dedicated to the stories of the people who have shaped Seoul National University and envisions its future. Touch panels and interview videos showcase distinguished alumni, while a three-sided media art installation at the exit artistically connects the past and present, embodying Seoul National University's vision for the future through JD-art's diverse creative content.
Hwang Donghwan, General Director of JD-art, stated, "This exhibition focuses on presenting Seoul National University's history and future as a unified flow, realized through sophisticated and sensory-rich content to provide a deeply engaging viewing experience," adding, "We will continue to unveil content of a different dimension through media art that weaves together art, technology, space, and storytelling."
The Seoul National University Historical Archives exhibition has been open since March 20 at the permanent exhibition hall on the first floor of the Convergence Building (Building 75) at Seoul National University. It operates Monday through Saturday from 10:00 to 17:00 (the schedule is subject to change, so please check the Seoul National University Historical Archives website for updates), and anyone is welcome to visit and view the exhibition freely.
