Yongin Special City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Sangil), announced on April 2 that it will begin construction to install a pedestrian walkway at the 'Temporary Public Parking Lot' located at 1010 Yeongdeok-dong, Giheung-gu.
The city is undertaking this project to reduce inconveniences caused by the absence of a pedestrian walkway and the lack of entry and exit routes at the temporary public parking lot, and to improve the efficiency of the parking facility.
The 'Yeongdeok-dong Temporary Public Parking Lot' was established in November last year and can accommodate a total of 223 vehicles. However, since there was no pedestrian walkway, local residents have been requesting improvements to the walking environment and the installation of lighting.
The city plans to invest approximately 120 million won to construct a 2-meter wide and 95.3-meter long pedestrian walkway and install two entry and exit staircases, starting in April and completing the work by May.
Once the pedestrian walkway and staircases are completed, the city expects that the traffic flow for local residents using the parking lot will be optimized and that the project will greatly contribute to creating a safer commuting environment for students at Heungdeok Elementary School, which is located next to the public parking lot.
An official from Yongin City stated, "The Yeongdeok-dong Temporary Public Parking Lot is used as a parking space for vehicles belonging to local residents and visitors to nearby stores, and there has been a strong demand for the installation of a pedestrian walkway." The official added, "We will actively work to improve the facilities to create a safe walking environment for both residents and students."
