Yeongdeungpo District in Seoul announced on April 1 that it will expand its water leisure program, the "Family Yacht Class," which utilizes the Han River, and begin recruiting participants for the second round starting April 6.
On March 27, the district signed a work agreement with four organizations, including the Seoul Yeongdeungpo-gu Sports Association, the Yeongdeungpo Yacht Association, and the Korea Marine Boy Scouts Seoul Federation, to promote family water activity programs. The participating organizations agreed to jointly develop water programs, provide specialized personnel and equipment, and share operational expertise to establish a safe environment for residents to enjoy water sports.
The Family Yacht Class will be increased from 10 sessions last year to 15 this year. The program will be held every weekend until July at the Yanghwa Hangang Park Marine Sports Training Center (235 Nodeullo), and will include dinghy yacht, kayak, and water sled experiences, as well as theory classes and water safety education.
The first round of recruitment, held in March, reached its capacity of 150 people within just two days of opening. The second round of recruitment will be conducted on a first-come, first-served basis through the Yeongdeungpo Sports Association website starting April 6, selecting a total of 150 participants-30 per session over five sessions. Families residing in Yeongdeungpo District with elementary, middle, or high school students are eligible to apply.
