The chairman and the operations committee chairman of the Gangseo District Council in Seoul, both under suspicion of involvement in recruitment corruption, have been arrested by the police.
On March 31 at 10:30 a.m., Kim Jihyun, the chief judge in charge of warrants at the Seoul Southern District Court, conducted a pre-arrest interrogation (warrant review) for Park, the chairman of the Gangseo District Council, and Jeon, the operations committee chairman, both suspected of violating the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes (bribery). Judge Kim issued arrest warrants, stating, "There is concern about the destruction of evidence."
Park and others are suspected of intervening in the recruitment process for a special position public official, identified as A, at the Gangseo District Council. After being hired, A reportedly handled HR and recruitment-related work at the council.
The police received this case from the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission in October last year, and have since conducted searches of the chairman's and operations committee chairman's offices and investigated Park and Jeon as suspects.
