Three individuals involved in a "revenge-for-hire" crime in Uiwang, Gyeonggi Province have been apprehended by the police. "Revenge-for-hire" refers to a private act of terror in which perpetrators, in exchange for money, commit offenses such as throwing filth or leaving graffiti in front of someone else's home.
On March 30, Uiwang Police Station in Gyeonggi Province announced that it had requested arrest warrants for three suspects, including a man in his 30s identified as A, on charges of property damage, trespassing, and defamation.
A and the others are accused of splattering feces and spraying lacquer on a victim’s front door at a fourth-floor apartment in Naeson-dong, Uiwang City, at around 1:22 a.m. on March 25. They also allegedly distributed dozens of flyers containing defamatory statements about the victim throughout the area.
On March 28, the police sequentially apprehended A and the others at their residences, including a home in Songdo, Incheon.
During the police investigation, A stated, "I was in need of money and saw an advertisement on social media that said, 'For those who need urgent cash,' so I reached out. Then, I committed the crime following orders from a superior via Telegram."
A involved two acquaintances in carrying out the crime. However, A claimed not to know anything about the superior.
A preliminary detention hearing for A and the other suspects is scheduled to take place at the Anyang branch of the Suwon District Court today.
The results of the hearing are expected to be announced late in the afternoon.
