'Call jumping' refers to the illegal act of transporting passengers for a fee using unlicensed vehicles. As this type of transportation lacks proper compensation systems in the event of an accident, it is considered a representative form of illegal transportation that poses a significant threat to public safety.
In particular, there have been cases of some foreign nationals who are overstaying their visas being involved in such illegal transportation, raising the necessity for enforcement not only to maintain traffic order, but also to manage the residency status of foreign nationals.
The joint crackdown, conducted on March 24, focused on nightlife districts and areas around subway stations with high nighttime foot traffic, including blocks 46, 48, and 51 in Jeongwang-dong.
If caught, violators are subject to criminal penalties and fines in accordance with the Passenger Transport Service Act and other related laws, as well as strict measures for violations of the Immigration Control Act.
Siheung City plans to continue strengthening enforcement activities by regularly checking for illegal paid transportation and violations of foreign residency status through joint enforcement teams.
Park Young-deok, Director of the Safety and Transportation Bureau, stated, "'Call jumping' is a serious illegal act that threatens the safety of citizens," adding, "Through our cooperation with the Ansan Immigration Office, we will thoroughly investigate illegal residency and illegal employment activities to ensure the safety and well-being of our citizens."
