The Busan Biennale Organizing Committee (Chairman: Hyungjoon Park, Mayor of Busan) will hold the curatorial forum "Planetary Gaze, Multilayered Regions" as a pre-program for the 2026 Busan Biennale on April 4 at Domohon.
This forum is designed as a space to initiate the "polyphonic relationships" suggested by the exhibition theme "Dissident Chorus" in the realm of discourse and practice prior to the exhibition itself.
The forum has been planned as a networking platform where curators from Korea and abroad come together to exchange diverse exhibition experiences and perspectives. The focus is on reexamining the role and value of contemporary exhibition curation and exploring the potential for solidarity and collaboration among curators.
Through the concept of a "planetary gaze," the forum seeks to reinterpret the relationship between exhibitions and regions-not confined to a particular area or geopolitical framework, but from a global perspective where various regions and contexts intersect. The aim is to expand the structure of multilayered relationships and resonance within the space of discourse.
Session 1 will explore the relationality and feasibility of exhibitions amid "unresolved imbalances and asynchrony," based on diverse perspectives such as sound, multilayered experience, and inner reflection. In Session 2, focusing on the theme of "Possibilities of Collaboration and Solidarity," participants will share curatorial cases from regional biennales, museums, and alternative spaces, and engage in a critical discussion of collaborative models and sustainable solidarity between institutions. Finally, all presenters will participate in an open discussion and Q&A session to further broaden the discourse.
The event will feature curators active both domestically and internationally, including Amal Khalaf and Evelyn Simons, the co-artistic directors of the 2026 Busan Biennale, as well as Sungwoo Kim, Sooyoung Lim, Bongmi Lee, and Sangho Choi.
Executive Committee Chair Lee Joon stated, "The Busan Biennale is expanding beyond being an exhibition that represents the region to become a complex space where different times and places, senses, and languages intersect. I hope that this will serve as the starting point for different voices, each maintaining their own density, to lead into future exhibitions, discourse, and practices."
Participation in the forum is available through advance registration and may close early on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants will be provided with related booklets.
