Kim Jeongsik's invitational exhibition opened on March 15 at Geumsong Art Gallery in Bugye-myeon, Gunwi-gun, North Gyeongsang Province and will run until March 29. At the opening ceremony, the artist performed jazz guitar live, transforming the gallery itself into a performance space and providing visitors with a unique artistic experience.

Having graduated from Berklee College of Music in the United States, Kim has established his musical identity by releasing full-length albums such as "Reflection" and "Hangeul, Improvisation." Recently, he has continued to translate the improvisational character and rhythm unique to jazz into a visual language, earning recognition as a fusion artist who moves fluidly between music and art.

This exhibition features the "Jazz Portrait" series, which visually explores the inner world and emotions of jazz performers, alongside the "Painting the Beatles" series-a pictorial reinterpretation of the world-famous band, The Beatles. Through variations in lines, colors, and textures, the works embody the rhythm and improvisation of jazz on the canvas, offering a new sensory experience described as "music you can see."

Kim stated, "Jazz is an ever-evolving art form, and its improvisational energy naturally extends into painting. Through attempts to cross the boundary between music and art, I have been exploring new forms of expression."

A representative from Geumsong Art Gallery commented, "This exhibition offers an opportunity to experience the intersection of sound and image. Visitors will be able to intuitively feel the musical rhythm as they appreciate the artworks."

This exhibition is significant in that it goes beyond a mere display of works, suggesting new possibilities for the expansion of art through interdisciplinary fusion. It is especially noteworthy as an experimental project realized at a regional gallery, breaking away from the exhibition trends centered in the metropolitan area.

Kim Jeongsik's work places emphasis on the very process of translating the essence of jazz-improvisation-into visual art. By reconstructing the fleeting moments of sound into colors and shapes, this exhibition demonstrates that art can transcend genre boundaries and expand into a totality of sensory experience. This endeavor, unfolding in Gunwi, highlights both the depth and potential of local culture and the arts.
