The woman appeared to be exhausted and was sinking under the water.
Meng and one of her companions reached out to grab the woman's waist and tried to pull her up, but the waves kept forcing her body downward. The two rescuers themselves swallowed seawater several times and began to lose strength.
Meng said, "As we tried to pull her, I swallowed seawater and heard her repeatedly shouting 'It's dangerous.'" She went on to explain, "After pulling for quite a while, both of us were almost exhausted. All we could do was raise our hands in the sea to call for help."
Fortunately, two male companions arrived at the scene and, together with the rescue team, managed to pull the woman onto the boat.
Even though Meng was already exhausted, she insisted that the woman be taken to shore before herself. Meng said, "In that situation, anyone would have gladly offered help. Kindness knows no borders," she said. "There is no need to remember who rescued her. It is enough to know that it was a Chinese person who helped."
