Pyeongtaek City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Jeong Jangseon) is providing childbirth congratulatory and support grants in accordance with the "Pyeongtaek City Childbirth Congratulatory·Support Grant Ordinance" to ease the financial burden on families with newborns and to foster a childbirth-friendly environment.
Eligibility for the childbirth congratulatory·support grant is granted if at least one parent has been registered as a resident of Pyeongtaek City and has met the residency requirements from one year prior to the newborn's birth date (or the adopted child's adoption date) up to the date of application. Applications must be submitted within six months from the birth date (or adoption date).
However, if the residency period in Pyeongtaek City is less than one year as of the birth date (or adoption date), the application must be made within six months from the date the residency period reaches one year and six months in order to be eligible, so special attention is required.
The childbirth congratulatory grant is provided per newborn (or adopted child) as follows: 500,000 won for the first child, 1.2 million won for the second child, 3 million won for the third child, and 5 million won for the fourth child and beyond. In addition, households with persons with disabilities are eligible to receive both the childbirth support grant and the childbirth congratulatory grant.
Applications can be submitted in person at the administrative welfare center of the relevant town, township, or neighborhood based on the place of residence, and further details can be obtained from the public health center or each administrative welfare center.
An official at Pyeongtaek City Songtan Public Health Center stated, "We will continue to expand support to reduce the financial burden on families with newborns and to create a child-friendly environment,” adding, "We hope that eligible families carefully check the application requirements and deadlines so as not to miss out on these valuable benefits by applying within the designated period."
