Namhae County in South Gyeongsang Province announced that it will hold "on-site joint meetings between the public and private sectors" targeting departments responsible for public construction projects in towns, townships, and those with a budget of over 1 billion won. The aim is to strengthen the competitiveness of local construction companies and invigorate the regional construction industry.
This meeting is being organized to listen to the difficulties faced by local construction companies, which are struggling due to the recent downturn in the construction market and a decrease in project orders, and to devise ways to expand local companies' participation.
The meeting will be attended by county officials, representatives from regional construction associations, and local construction company officials. They plan to share various opinions on activating the local construction industry, such as expanding local company participation, increasing the use of local materials and equipment, and establishing a fair subcontracting culture.
In particular, Namhae County plans to visit the departments and towns/townships responsible for projects valued at over 1 billion won to listen to voices from the field and discuss ways to expand local company participation, thereby formulating practical support measures.
Additionally, through these meetings, the county intends to strengthen a cooperative system to revitalize the local construction industry by expanding local companies' participation in subcontracts, encouraging the use of local equipment and materials, and resolving difficulties at construction sites.
A Namhae County official stated, "The local construction industry plays an important role in the regional economy and job creation. Through these meetings, we will gather diverse opinions from the field and develop effective support measures," adding, "We will continue to make efforts to ensure local companies can participate more widely in construction projects."
Meanwhile, Namhae County is pursuing various policies to revitalize the local construction industry, including expanding local companies' project orders, encouraging the use of local materials, and eradicating illegal subcontracting at construction sites.
