Yongin Special City Successfully Hosts the 25th National Indoor Rowing Championship, Emerging as a Rowing Hub

Yongin Special City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Sangil), announced that the "25th National Indoor Rowing Championship and Yongin Special City National Indoor Recreational Rowing Competition" was held on the 14th at Mokyang Hall, Kangnam University.

Hosted by the Korea Rowing Association and the Yongin City Sports Association and organized by the Yongin City Rowing Association, this event was established as a festival for the rowing sports community, bringing together both elite rowing athletes and rowing enthusiasts.


The "25th National Indoor Rowing Championship" held that day saw participation from 41 teams across the country, including the Workplace Sports Team of Yongin Special City Hall.


Additionally, the "Yongin Special City National Indoor Recreational Rowing Competition" attracted about 100 athletes from 24 amateur teams nationwide.


Mayor Lee stated, "I congratulate everyone on the opening of today’s competition aimed at further improving the skills of rowing athletes and enthusiasts," and added, "Last year, the rowing team of the Workplace Sports Team at Yongin Special City Hall achieved excellent results, and on the 13th, they received the Excellence Award in the coaching category and the Team Excellence Award in the competition category from the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee. This demonstrates that Yongin's rowing capabilities are being strengthened and the sport's base is expanding, which is very encouraging."

On the 13th, at the "72nd Korean Sport & Olympic Committee Sports Awards" held at Taereung Training Center in Seoul, coach Jo Junhyeong of the Yongin Special City Hall Workplace Sports Team’s rowing team was honored with the Excellence Award in the coaching category, and the team received the Team Excellence Award in the competition category.


The Korean Sport & Olympic Committee selected a total of 93 individuals and 5 organizations for awards that day across the competition, coaching, and refereeing categories.


Under the guidance of coach Jo Junhyeong and assistant coach Seo Yongwon, the 11 athletes of the Yongin Special City Hall Workplace Sports Team’s rowing team delivered outstanding performances last year, greatly enhancing Yongin’s reputation.

The rowing team won a total of 1 gold medal and 3 silver medals at last year's National Sports Festival and claimed 20 gold medals, 13 silver medals, and 4 bronze medals at various competitions. In comparison, in 2024, they have already won 7 gold medals, 9 silver medals, and 5 bronze medals. With their skills improving year by year, the Yongin Special City Hall rowing team is expected to achieve even better results this year.
