Iran has issued a warning of retaliation following a U.S. airstrike on Kharg Island, a key facility for the country’s crude oil exports.
Major international media outlets reported that, on the 14th (local time), the Iranian military announced through domestic media that if Iran’s oil and energy infrastructure is attacked, it would strike the energy infrastructure of oil companies in the Middle East that cooperate with the United States.
This warning from the Iranian military came immediately after U.S. President Donald Trump stated that military targets on Kharg Island, Iran’s major oil hub, had been destroyed.
The oil facilities of Gulf oil-producing countries that are close to Iran have maintained long-standing strategic partnerships with the U.S. government and U.S. companies.
Previously, President Trump said via his social media platform, Truth Social, “At my direction, U.S. Central Command carried out one of the most powerful bombings in Middle Eastern history,” adding that all of Iran’s military assets on Kharg Island were specifically targeted and destroyed.
Kharg Island is a critical export terminal handling about 90 percent of Iran’s total crude oil exports and serves as a strategic stronghold that acts as a financial lifeline for Iran’s war efforts.
