Sacheon City: Petition for Aerospace Complex City Special Act Surpasses 120,000 Signatures

The petition campaign calling for the enactment of the Special Act on the Construction of the Aerospace Complex City has surpassed 120,000 signatures.

The citizen-led movement that began in Sacheon, Gyeongsangnam-do is rapidly spreading across the entire province and to the southern coastal region, quickly building a broad consensus within the local community on the need for the special legislation.

Sacheon City has expanded the base of resident participation by initially launching a city-wide petition campaign to promote awareness of the necessity of the Special Act on the Construction of the Aerospace Complex City, then working with Gyeongsangnam-do Province to extend the movement throughout the province.

As a result, as of March 2026, more than 124,000 people have participated in the petition, demonstrating the strong interest and support of the local community for the enactment of the special law.

In particular, while the petition campaign continues throughout Gyeongsangnam-do, the campaign is also underway in Goheung County, Jeollanam-do, calling for the enactment of the Special Act on the Construction of the Aerospace Complex City, further expanding consensus across the southern coastal region.

This movement goes beyond a simple demand for local development and is drawing attention as an example of joint progress for the southern coastal region and cooperation between Yeongnam and Honam. The perception that the establishment of the Aerospace Complex City is a future growth driver for the region and a national strategic project is also spreading.

In addition, various local community activities continue to urge the enactment of the special law.

Campaigns such as wish-walks for the enactment of the special law and hand placard performances, in which citizens actively participate, are being continuously held, further broadening the consensus on the necessity of the special legislation.

Along with this, Sacheon City has also consistently hosted academic and policy events to explore policy directions for the development of the Aerospace Complex City.

Through events such as the Aerospace Complex City Development Strategy Symposium, the International Aerospace Symposium, and the Mijidap Forum, various opinions from experts, industry, and academia have been collected, and strategies for the development of the aerospace industry and the direction of city construction have been discussed.

Meanwhile, Sacheon City plans to compile the results of the petition campaign, reflecting the will of citizens and residents, into a booklet and submit it to government ministries and the National Assembly.

An official from the city stated, "The construction of the Aerospace Complex City is a crucial task to secure a future growth engine for the region and to strengthen the competitiveness of Korea's aerospace industry," adding, "Based on the results of the petition campaign reflecting the will of citizens and residents, we will strengthen cooperation with relevant organizations to ensure the enactment of the special law."
