Minkyung Sun: "I Will Resolve the Janghang Sageori Bottleneck Within Three Months"

Minkyung Sun, a preliminary candidate for Mayor of Goyang, has unveiled a concrete policy alternative aimed at dramatically improving traffic flow near Janghang IC, one of the city’s most notorious congestion hotspots. Known as a “transportation administration expert,” Sun emphasized his commitment to prioritizing commuter convenience by proposing a lane expansion plan derived from detailed on-site analysis.

The core of this proposal is a structural overhaul of “Janghang Sageori,” the main gateway from Jayu-ro through Janghang IC into the city center. Currently, the number of vehicles trying to access destinations such as the MBC Dream Center, Lake Park, and the Janghang District via Janghang Sageori is rapidly increasing. However, with only two left-turn lanes available, severe bottlenecks occur during evening rush hours. This has resulted in long queues extending as far as the Janghang Underpass, causing significant inconvenience for residents.

Sun’s solution focuses on the efficient redistribution of existing road resources. By adjusting the sidewalks and some green belts adjacent to the road, additional idle space would be secured, allowing the number of left-turn lanes to be increased from two to three. Furthermore, a dedicated right-turn lane would be established to minimize interference with through and left-turning traffic, thereby maximizing overall intersection efficiency.

Sun especially highlighted that this proposal is a “low-cost, high-efficiency” policy capable of delivering immediate results without the need for large-scale civil engineering projects. He pledged, “This project does not require an enormous budget or years to complete. Upon taking office, I will finish all administrative procedures and construction within three months, reducing evening commute times for Goyang citizens by up to 30 minutes.”

Having built his expertise by leading transportation policy at the Gyeonggi Provincial Council and Gyeonggi Transport Corporation, Sun has demonstrated his reputation as a hands-on administrator through this latest policy announcement.

Sun stated, “Because traffic issues are directly tied to the daily lives of residents, the speed of resolution is paramount. I will move beyond desk-bound discussions and, through precise field-based planning, clear the clogged arteries of Goyang’s roads.”
