Democratic Party Confirms Four Candidates for Chungbuk Governor Primary: Noh Youngmin, Song Giseop, Shin Yonghan, Han Beomdeok

30% Dues-paying Party Members, 70% Safe-number Electoral College

The Democratic Party of Korea announced that it has selected four candidates for the Chungcheongbuk-do gubernatorial primary in the upcoming local elections on June 3: Noh Youngmin, former Presidential Chief of Staff; Song Giseop, former Jinchun County Governor; Shin Yonghan, Vice Chairman of the Presidential Committee for Balanced National Development; and Han Beomdeok, former Mayor of Chungju.


Kim Isu, Chairman of the Democratic Party's Nomination Management Committee, stated during a briefing at the party headquarters in Yeouido on the 13th, "As a result of the candidate screening, the committee has selected all four applicants as primary candidates."

Chairman Kim introduced the candidates as follows: "Candidate Noh served three terms as a National Assembly member, was Ambassador to China, and Presidential Chief of Staff. Candidate Song served three terms as County Governor and successfully led Jinchun for 10 years. Vice Chairman Shin informed the public of the truth behind the Myeong Taegyun incident. Candidate Han ushered in the era of unified Cheongju and became the first mayor to be re-elected in Cheongju."


According to the decision made by the party executive committee the previous day, the public participation primary will be conducted with 30% of the votes from party members with voting rights and 70% from the safe-number electoral college.
