Achievements in Community-Centered Initiatives Such as AI Administration and Senior Job Programs

Gangseo-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Jin Kyohoon), has been selected as an outstanding institution for the fifth consecutive year in the "2025 Local Government Innovation Evaluation" organized by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.

This year’s evaluation comprehensively reviewed 10 indicators for 243 local governments nationwide, including participation in innovation activities, organizational culture improvement, and the establishment of a foundation for an artificial intelligence (AI) transformation. The district received high marks across the board for realizing its “AI Gangseo” vision, senior-customized job initiatives, and efforts to enhance organizational culture.

Last year, the district established the master plan “AI Gangseo,” which incorporates AI technology across all administrative areas. An AI autonomous driving robot collects recyclables and conducts nighttime patrols in Magokhaneui Park, and the district is also running an AI-based business district analysis and content production support program for small business owners. The “AI-based Rapid Search System for Missing Persons” helps with search efforts by analyzing large amounts of closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage within one minute.

In the representative innovation project category, the Gangseo-style senior-customized job program received special attention. The "Gangseo Airport Supporters" initiative, the first of its kind in the country, assigns 140 seniors to ensure airport safety, while the "Neulbom School Support Group," composed of former teachers, assists children with commuting and daily guidance. The “Hansulduchan” Korean buffet, operated directly by seniors, has opened a second branch at Gimpo International Airport, and four “Handam Cafes” for seniors and the “Hanol Workshop” for knitting are also in operation.

In terms of organizational culture, the district’s efforts to improve internal administrative efficiency were recognized, including the “Work Diet” idea contest, the introduction of an AI work support platform, and the creation of a paperless office.
