US Weekly Initial Jobless Claims Down by 1,000 from Previous Week

The number of people filing new unemployment benefit claims in the United States slightly decreased last week.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the number of initial unemployment benefit claims for the week of March 1 to 7 was 213,000, down by 1,000 from the previous week. This figure is also slightly below the market expectation of 215,000.

The number of people continuously receiving unemployment benefits for more than two weeks also declined. As of February 22 to 28, the number of continuing unemployment benefit claims was 1.85 million, a decrease of 21,000 from the previous week.

Recently, some signs of weakening have been observed in U.S. employment indicators. In February, nonfarm payrolls decreased by 92,000 compared to the previous month, and the unemployment rate rose slightly to 4.4%, up from 4.3% in January.

However, as unemployment benefit claims have not surged, it is assessed that the labor market is not deteriorating rapidly. Wall Street is closely watching upcoming employment data, viewing it as an important signal for gauging the direction of the economy.
