A retired U.S. Air Force general who had served at a base long associated with rumors about aliens and unidentified flying objects (UFOs) has gone missing, prompting an investigation by local police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). According to CNN on March 11 (local time), retired U.S. Air Force Major General William Neil Muckozland, aged 68, left his home in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on foot around 11 a.m. on February 27 and has since lost contact with his family and friends.

The Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office, which has jurisdiction over the area, issued a missing person alert the day after his disappearance on February 28. Authorities have since contacted the owners of over 600 nearby homes in an effort to trace his whereabouts, but no significant progress has been made. The Sheriff's Office stated that it is conducting the investigation in cooperation with the Air Force and the FBI and, although no evidence of criminal activity has been found so far, all possibilities remain open. It was also reported that Major General Muckozland left his cell phone at home when he went out.

Major General Muckozland is an engineer who specialized in aerospace engineering. He earned degrees from the U.S. Air Force Academy, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and the Harvard Kennedy School, and was responsible for the development of special military technology programs such as the Global Positioning System (GPS) and space-based lasers (SBL) at the Department of Defense.

The Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio, where he served as the head of the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), has long been the subject of rumors claiming that the bodies of aliens discovered in Roswell, New Mexico, in 1947 were kept there.

Major General Muckozland is not suffering from dementia, but is known to have unspecified health issues that have not been publicly disclosed. Luis Elison, a former U.S. Department of Defense intelligence officer who now advocates for the release of classified information about UFOs, said, "I hope Major General Muckozland has not become the target of a crime," and prayed for his safe and healthy return as soon as possible.

His wife, Susan Muckozland Wilkerson, posted on Facebook expressing her hope for her husband's safe return. Wilkerson said there is no reason for her husband to be abducted in connection with UFOs, adding, "Neil (Major General Muckozland) does not possess any special knowledge of the alien bodies reportedly stored at Wright-Patterson or the Roswell crash debris."

She expressed her frustration with the continued absence of any clues regarding her husband's whereabouts, saying, "Perhaps the best hypothesis is that aliens used a beam to lift him into their mothership." She added, "However, there have been no reports of a mothership hovering over the Sandia Mountains."
