Gochang County Appoints Advisory Group for Premium "Gochang Watermelon"

Gochang County, marking the second anniversary of the geographical indication registration of "Gochang Watermelon," held an appointment ceremony for the "2026 Gochang Premium Watermelon Advisory Group" at the Agricultural Technology Center on the 11th and awarded appointment certificates to the advisory members.

The advisory group consists of five internal and external experts in various fields, including watermelon cultivation techniques and brand marketing.

The advisory members will play a key role in advancing the premiumization of Gochang Watermelon by providing on-site consulting and evaluation for premium watermelon producers, developing strategies for high-end branding and distribution of premium watermelons, and offering technical advice and on-site inspections for producer organization and management methods.

Immediately following the appointment ceremony, the advisory group held its first consultation meeting at the Agricultural Technology Center, where they provided technical advice to promote the premiumization of Gochang Watermelon.

Previously, Gochang Watermelon was registered as Geographical Indication Agricultural Product No. 116 on September 20, 2024, and, as in the previous year, watermelons that meet certain standards will continue to be sold under the "Geographical Indication Gochang Premium Watermelon" brand this year.

The Director of the Gochang County Agricultural Technology Center stated, "Through the professional assessment and recommendations of the Gochang Premium Watermelon Advisory Group, we will ensure the substantial development of the Gochang Watermelon premiumization project," adding, "We will continue to do our utmost to maintain our reputation as the nation's leading watermelon brand."
