Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province (Governor Kim Jin Tae) announced on March 12 that a magnitude 3.1 earthquake occurred at 6:05 p.m. on March 11 in the eastern sea area of Samcheok, followed by an additional magnitude 2.1 earthquake at 10:11 p.m. the same night.

As of now, no reports of felt earthquakes have been received within the province, and there have been no identified facility damages.


Governor Kim Jin Tae of Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province ordered proactive measures to address the anxiety that residents may feel due to the series of earthquakes occurring in a short period of time and instructed that the related situations be closely managed.


Accordingly, the province has established a preparedness posture centered on the Disaster and Safety Situation Room and is keeping a close watch on the situation.


In addition, the province has strengthened inspections of major facilities and is maintaining a thorough management system for residents' safety by monitoring for additional aftershocks in real time.


Governor Kim stated, "The province will remain vigilant and thoroughly prepared to protect the lives and safety of our residents," and requested, "Please maintain a readiness posture to ensure that the Disaster and Safety Situation Room thoroughly manages the situation and is prepared to respond immediately to any unforeseen events."
