Cheorwon County, Gangwon Province, will hold a seminar titled "Implementation of the Peace Economic Special Zone Act: What Should Cheorwon County Prepare?" at 1:30 PM on March 12 at Jeongsan Hall, University of North Korean Studies.
This seminar has been organized in line with the Ministry of Unification's basic concept for the Peace Economic Special Zone and its first master plan, with the aim of exploring policy directions and action plans that Cheorwon County should proactively prepare for the designation of the Peace Economic Special Zone.
The seminar is hosted by Cheorwon County and organized by Gangwon Ilbo. Approximately 130 participants are expected to attend, including experts in inter-Korean exchange and cooperation, representatives from private organizations, Cheorwon County residents, and related public officials.
During the event, based on the recently enacted "Act on Designation and Operation of Peace Economic Special Zones," the strategic location and potential of Cheorwon County as a border area situated at the very center of the DMZ will be re-evaluated. In-depth discussions will be held on strategic response measures to prepare for the future designation of the Peace Economic Special Zone.
The seminar will proceed in the order of opening ceremony, special lecture, thematic presentations, and a comprehensive discussion. The special lecture, under the topic "The Situation on the Korean Peninsula and the Peace Economic Special Zone," will cover changes in domestic and international conditions and the policy significance of promoting the Peace Economic Special Zone. The thematic presentations will address: ▲ the promotion of the Peace Economic Special Zone and the roles and tasks of Cheorwon County; ▲ economic revitalization measures for Cheorwon County under the Peace Economic Special Zone Act; and ▲ approaches to inter-Korean agricultural cooperation in Cheorwon County linked to the Peace Economic Special Zone Act. Afterwards, the comprehensive discussion will feature experts from relevant fields who will discuss, from various perspectives, the directions and policy tasks for Cheorwon County to prepare for the special zone in line with local realities.
Lee Hyeonjong, Governor of Cheorwon County, stated, "We will make the most of the proposals presented at this seminar to seek a 'Cheorwon-style Peace Economic Special Zone' strategy suitable for our region, and do our utmost so that this leads to tangible revitalization that our residents can truly feel."
