BuySellStandard, the operator of the Security Token Offering (STO) platform 'Peace,' announced on March 11 that it has secured an investment worth 4 billion won from investors including Kosdaq-listed Experix Group and S&S Investment. The company has set a goal to close its Series A round within the first half of this year.
The investors are believed to have judged that now is the optimal time to capture the market, given that regulatory uncertainties have been resolved. In January, the Capital Markets Act amendment passed the National Assembly plenary session, thereby legalizing security tokens, and last month, the Financial Services Commission approved preliminary authorization for a fractional investment over-the-counter exchange. BuySellStandard is an initial shareholder and issuer in the Korea Exchange (KDX) consortium, which has received exchange authorization.
BuySellStandard plans to use the investment funds for acquiring, designing, and launching new product underlying assets, talent recruitment, and obtaining investment brokerage and advisory licenses.
The investors will also cooperate on specific business projects through this investment. BuySellStandard is set to begin work on tokenizing the global patent portfolio in telecommunications, semiconductors, and software owned by Intellectual Discovery, an Experix affiliate specializing in intellectual property (IP). According to BuySellStandard, this will mark the first case in Korea of converting patent assets-which have so far had limited liquidity options-into security tokens.
A representative from Experix stated, "By combining the patent assets owned by Intellectual Discovery with BuySellStandard's security token technology, we expect to create a new investment structure that allows individual investors to access the patent investment market, which has so far been limited to institutions."
Jung Sijoon, CEO of S&S Investment, commented, "BuySellStandard is the only business restructuring-approved company with a multi-asset strategy, and as a core issuer in the KDX consortium, it has established a structure that links issuance and distribution, which clearly differentiates it from other operators."
Shin Beomjoon, CEO of BuySellStandard, stated, "This year will be the year our products are validated in the market," adding, "We will accelerate the early realization of products for various asset classes, including patent IP, content, and corporate finance, and speed up the development of a global distribution infrastructure."
