Chungnam Development Corporation has launched a women's handball team, taking a major step toward expanding the local sports base and fostering professional athletes in the region.

The corporation plans to build a team led by an Olympic medalist and enhance its competitiveness on national stages such as the National Sports Festival and the H League.

On March 10, the corporation held an inauguration ceremony for the women's handball team in its main conference room.

The team consists of seven members, including Head Coach Kang Jaewon and Coach Kim Chayeon.

Coach Kang is a prominent figure in Korean handball, having been a key member of the silver medal-winning team at the 1988 Seoul Olympics and serving as the national team head coach, leading the team to the semifinals at the 2012 London Olympics and the quarterfinals at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.

Coach Kim, a silver medalist at the 2004 Athens Olympics, will be responsible for nurturing players based on her experience as a national team athlete.

President Kim Byeonggeun stated, "Chungnam Development Corporation is a public enterprise that has grown together with the local community. We launched the women's handball team to connect more closely with residents through sports and to bring new vitality to the region."

Coach Kang Jaewon said, "We will build a team that upholds fundamentals and principles, and that never stops challenging until the end."

Chungnam Development Corporation plans to expand the team to 16 members in the future, participate in major competitions such as the National Sports Festival and the H League, and promote talent-sharing activities to foster young athletes.
