The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on March 10 that it has selected "Floating Cube" as the winning entry in the design competition for the multipurpose public office building, which will be established as a donated facility within the Seobu Truck Terminal Urban High-Tech Logistics Complex in Sinjeong-dong, Yangcheon-gu.
This facility, with a total construction cost of approximately 17.8 billion won and a gross floor area of 5,000 square meters, will house a startup support center for prospective entrepreneurs and an integrated control room for the Gangseo Road Maintenance Office.
A total of 61 teams participated in the design competition. Five teams advanced to the second round after the first stage of evaluation, and on March 6, after presentations by the designers and deliberations by a panel of architectural experts, the work that demonstrated both creativity and feasibility was selected as the winner.
The winning entry is a joint work by Hoga Architects and the Korea National University of Cultural Heritage. It proposes a design that seamlessly connects the logistics complex at the rear of the site with the park at the front, while highlighting the identity of the public facility and enhancing its public character.
The Urban High-Tech Logistics Complex development project held its groundbreaking ceremony in November last year and is scheduled to begin construction in the second half of this year. The donated facility is planned to start construction in 2030 and be completed in 2032.
Kim Yonghak, Director of Future Space Planning at the Seoul Metropolitan Government, stated, "This competition was the fourth design competition for donated facilities promoted by the city. We have selected the optimal proposal that balances flexible usability and public character, reflecting the features of public work facilities."
