Lee Jangwoo, Mayor of Daejeon, stated, "In order to alleviate the management burden on small business owners and self-employed individuals who are struggling due to recent price increases and declining consumption, we must actively promote the prompt execution of the budget."
At the weekly work meeting he presided over on March 9, Mayor Lee said, "In particular, to boost consumption at traditional markets, review plans to use the remaining budget of approximately 450 million won from the traditional market refund support program, which was implemented during the holiday season, to organize additional consumption promotion events during upcoming holidays."
Mayor Lee presented three key concepts for stabilizing the people's economy: 'responding to economic conditions,' 'business-friendly administration' to minimize inconvenience for companies and attract investment, and 'urban policy' for improving nighttime scenery and transportation.
In particular, the policy direction has been consolidated as 'prompt execution.'
He also ordered efforts to strengthen support for local businesses by swiftly executing emergency management stabilization funds and providing enhanced administrative support to major companies, such as leading local bio companies, so they can pursue their businesses stably. He instructed that corporate site visits and communication with businesses must be expanded to quickly resolve any difficulties companies are facing.
At the same time, urban culture and landscape policies were also discussed. The city is considering actively promoting nighttime landscape lighting centered around the first Daejeon City Hall (the former Daejeon-bu government office) and the Daejeon Temi Literature Museum, among other cultural facilities in the area, and plans to gradually improve the cityscape so that citizens can enjoy urban culture even at night.
Projects to improve pedestrian environments for citizens' health will also be pursued. The city plans to widen the barefoot walking path in the Hanbat Arboretum area and enhance convenience facilities to improve ease of use for citizens.
In addition, the city reviewed key issues directly related to citizens' daily lives, such as strengthening safety management at urban railway tram construction sites, promoting reductions in usage fees for shared assets like underground shopping centers, and improving traffic conditions around baseball stadiums.
Mayor Lee stated, "It is important to quickly implement policies that citizens and local businesses can truly feel, even amid difficult economic conditions," adding, "We will focus our administrative capabilities on stabilizing people's livelihoods and enhancing the city's competitiveness."
