Daegu Mayoral Candidate Lee Jin-sook: "Former Mayor Moon Hee-gap to Lead Support Committee and Give Full Backing"

Lee Jin-sook, former Chairperson of the Korea Communications Commission and candidate for Daegu mayor, announced on March 9 that "former Daegu Mayor Moon Hee-gap has agreed to serve as the head of my support committee and will actively support my campaign in the upcoming local elections on June 3."

On this day, Lee Jin-sook, the prospective candidate, wrote on Facebook, "On the afternoon of the 8th, former Mayor Moon met with me at his home in Hwawon-eup, Dalseong-gun, Daegu. He expressed his support, stating that I am the most suitable person to be the next Daegu mayor, and agreed to take on the role of chairman of the support committee."

Former Mayor Moon shared his experience from his tenure as Daegu mayor and had an in-depth discussion with Lee Jin-sook about ways to revitalize the stagnant Daegu economy. At the meeting, he emphasized, "Daegu now needs leadership that can drive change," adding, "If Lee Jin-sook asks for my help, I will do my utmost in any way possible. For Daegu to rise again, bold changes and new driving forces are necessary."

In response, Lee Jin-sook stated, "This local election will be a crucial turning point for change in Daegu. I will pour all my energy into restoring Daegu's status as a city that once led Korea."

The two agreed that, in order for Daegu to regain its status as one of Korea's top three cities-alongside Seoul and Pyongyang in the past-it is most important to revive the 'can-do' Daegu spirit.

Former Mayor Moon Hee-gap, who served as Senior Presidential Secretary for Economic Affairs, was the first and second popularly elected mayor of Daegu, serving from 1995 to 2002.
