Soaring Demand for D2C Technologies

On March 9, global e-commerce platform Cafe24 announced that the annual total transaction volume on its e-commerce app marketplace, “Cafe24 Store,” reached approximately KRW 67.9 billion last year.

This figure represents a roughly 66% increase from KRW 4.08 billion the previous year. Accumulated app downloads during the same period also rose to 264,517, up 60.35% from 164,961 in the previous year.

Cafe24 Store is an app marketplace that allows online business operators to instantly apply the latest e-commerce features to their own stores with just a few clicks, similar to how smartphone users easily download and apply functions from mobile app marketplaces. Even business operators with no development knowledge or technical personnel can easily implement advanced features such as AI-based product recommendations, customer relationship management (CRM), and marketing automation.

Cafe24 analyzed that the environment enabling the rapid development and supply of advanced features using AI tools has led to a significant increase in the number of new partner developers entering the market. Approximately 20% of all apps now incorporate AI technology. In addition to core solutions that were previously strong, such as marketing, logistics, payments, and inventory management, a wide range of apps in fields like AI, data analytics, and CRM have been launched, further enriching the ecosystem.

In fact, there have been a series of cases where companies have easily adopted new features through Cafe24 Store and significantly increased their sales. Company B, which operates brands in the haircare and lifestyle sectors, implemented the CRM marketing automation app “Haeckle” via Cafe24 Store. After adopting Haeckle, the company was able to automatically send messages tailored to customer status by analyzing behavioral data such as visit records and purchase history. For instance, customers who left items in their shopping cart without purchasing would automatically receive personalized messages encouraging them to complete the purchase. About 23% of customers who received these messages actually made a purchase. As a result of introducing this automated marketing, Company B succeeded in raising its sales to more than six times its target.

Cafe24 offers APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) and developer tools (SDKs) necessary for developing various features, and runs a dedicated developer portal and documentation to promote the entry of new developers into its ecosystem.

Lee Jaeseok, CEO of Cafe24, stated, “The significant growth in annual transaction volume at Cafe24 Store is the result of collaboration between online business operators and partner developers. As we enter an era where AI is becoming commonplace, we will further expand the ecosystem and strengthen support so that all online businesses can easily benefit from advanced technologies.”
