The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries announced that starting March 9, it will launch and operate the "Eco-Friendly Ship and Equipment Performance Verification Support Platform," which comprehensively provides information on testing facilities necessary for evaluating the performance of eco-friendly ships and related equipment.
As carbon reduction efforts intensify globally, the shipping and shipbuilding industries are also actively developing eco-friendly ships and related equipment. However, since performance verification is essential before applying newly developed equipment to actual vessels, there has been growing demand for systematic provision of information on relevant testing facilities.
In response, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries has established the "Eco-Friendly Ship and Equipment Performance Verification Support Platform" to allow industry stakeholders to easily access information on testing facilities required for performance verification.
This platform offers information on 119 eco-friendly ship and equipment testing facilities established nationwide, including key functionalities of equipment, testing and operating organizations, and types of certifications. It also provides a map-based service so that users can quickly identify the locations of testing organizations.
The platform is available on the "Eco-Friendly Ship Integrated Support Website" through the "Eco-Friendly Ship and Equipment Testing Infrastructure Information" board, and can be accessed by anyone without membership registration.
Lee Sooho, Director General of Maritime Safety at the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, stated, "To apply eco-friendly technologies in the field, swift performance verification is required both on land and at sea." He added, "We will continue to expand the foundation for eco-friendly ship and equipment testing and enhance the functions of the performance verification support platform to actively support the shipping and shipbuilding industries in their eco-friendly transition."
