Namhae County and Sacheon City Join Forces to Build the Sacheon Aerospace Railway Line

A New Growth Axis for the Southern Coast Linking the Korea Aerospace Administration and Tourist Destinations
Namhae County in Gyeongsangnam-do Province and Sacheon City have joined forces to promote balanced development along the southern coast and to build future-oriented industrial and tourism infrastructure.
On March 6, Namhae County Governor Jang Chungnam and Sacheon City Mayor Park Dongsik adopted a joint proposal at Namhae County Office for the construction of the Sacheon Aerospace Line as part of the national rail network. They formally requested that the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport include this line in the "5th National Rail Network Construction Plan (2026-2035)" currently being formulated.
Namhae County and Sacheon City agreed that the current road-centered transportation system alone cannot accommodate the increasing demand for industrial logistics and tourism.
If the Sacheon Aerospace Line is newly established, it is expected to greatly improve accessibility to key hubs such as the Korea Aerospace Administration, national industrial complexes, and major tourist destinations along the southern coast. In addition, it will enhance convenience for local residents and help revitalize the economy, serving as a catalyst for restructuring the spatial framework of the southern coastal region.
Governor Jang stated, "As the region accelerates preparations for the future, including the opening of an undersea tunnel and expansion of large-scale tourism infrastructure, Namhae County is also striving to ensure that the Daejeon-Namhae railway line is included in the national plan. When the Daejeon-Namhae line, which traverses the southern inland, is linked with the Sacheon Aerospace Line, tourism, the economy, and industry can all advance together."
He added, "With the establishment of next-generation transportation networks, Namhae and Sacheon-and ultimately the entire southern coastal region-will secure a key driver for joint growth. The early construction of a metropolitan railway will form the foundation to transform Namhae into a transportation, tourism, and industrial hub of Korea."
