The police questioned Assemblyman Kim as a suspect over the course of two days, on the 26th and 27th of last month. Although he was questioned for more than 14 hours each day, the police determined that further investigation was necessary.

Assemblyman Kim became embroiled in a political fundraising controversy after a petition was made public stating that he had received 30 million won in cash from two former Dongjak-gu council members in 2020 and returned the money several months later. In addition, there are 13 allegations, including suspicions that he was involved in his second son’s transfer to Soongsil University and requests for employment at Bithumb, suspicions that his wife privately used a corporate card belonging to Ms. Cho, the vice chairperson of the Dongjak-gu Council at the time, and that he overlooked the acceptance of nomination funds by Assemblywoman Kang Sunwoo.
